Macalester vs. Crown statistics

Crown scored three touchdowns during a nine-minute span late in the third quarter and early in the fourth to come back from a halftime deficit and beat Macalester 27-17 on a warm afternoon in St. Bonafacius. Crown enjoyed a 3-1 turnover advantage and moves to 1-1 on the season. The Scots drop to 0-2.

Macalester got on the board first on a Nathan Coppersmith (So., Concord, Mass. / Concord Academy) 32-yard field goal. After the Storm dove 60 yards to take a 7-3 lead, the Scots re-gained control with an eight-play, 45-yard drive which culminated on a Trevor Miehe (Jr., Holmen, Wis.) eight-yard TD pass to Matt Mitchell(Jr., Chippewa Falls, Wis.) midway through the second quarter. The Scots led 10-7 at halftime.

The low-scoring contest changed directions when Crown went 47 yards on just three plays late in the third quarter for a touchdown, and followed that up with a four-yard drive for another touchdown after a 43-yard interception return.

Crown went up 27-10 before the Scots scored their final touchdown late in the game on a Miehe six-yard completion to Nash Traylor (Sr., Sonora, Tex.).

Running back T. Joe Loiselle (So., Chippewa Falls, Wis.) put together another solid effort to lead the Macalester offense, finishing with 23 carries for 111 yards. He now has seven 100-yard rushing performances in 11 career starts (plus two more with over 90).

David Melms (Fy., Wauwatosa, Wis. / Wisconsin Lutheran) had an interception and 34-yard return to lead the defense. Josh Boomgaarden (Sr., Eden Prairie, Minn.) led all Macalester tacklers with 12 stops and Will Dhonau (So., Fond du Lac, Wis.) had two tackles for loss of yardage, including a QB sack.

Crown quarterback Steve Boger passed for 231 yards and one score, and Ben Horme ran for 96 yards and a touchdown.

Macalester's third game of the season is next Saturday (Sept. 19) at Maranatha Baptist Bible in Watertown, Wis.
