Macalester vs. Augsburg box score
The Macalester Scots put an end to a frustrating eight-game losing skid by jumping to a 20-point halftime lead and going on to defeat visiting Augsburg 73-59 at the Leonard Center. Macalester knocked down 28 free throws to win despite making fewer baskets as the Auggies were whistled for 30 fouls.
Macalester claims its first win since Jan. 14 and boosts its record to 9-12 overall, 7-11 in the MIAC. Augsburg falls to 4-17 on the season and 2-16 in the conference. The Scots broke a 4-4 tie in the early going and led the rest of the way. Mac was on top 38-18 at the halftime break.
Trina PaStarr (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn. / Southwest) finished with 14 points, six rebounds, three assists and three blocked shots to lead the way for the Scots. She had 10 points and six boards in the decisive first half. Three teammates added 11 points each:
Jessica Rene (Fy., Eau Claire, Wis. / Memorial),
Ann Baltzer (Jr., Bismarck, N.D.) and
Majra Mucic (So., Zenica, Bosnia / St. Louis Park (Minn.)).
Elise Pagel (Sr., Appleton, Wis. / North) and
Danielle Johnson (Jr., DeForest, Wis. / Madison Edgewood) provided four assists each, while Pagel had three steals and eight rebounds. The Scots out-scored the Auggies 15-2 in points in the paint.
Shannon Renne and Serenae Levine each tallied 14 points to pace Augsburg, while Michelle Richter added 11.
The Scots have four road games to finish the season, starting with a tilt Wednesday (Feb. 11) at Concordia-Moorhead.
