Macalester vs. Gustavus statistics
Macalester had a strong night on the boards, grabbing 22 offensive rebounds compared to 19 defensive boards for host-Gustavus, but shot only 33% from the floor and had to settle for a 60-48 defeat to the Golden Gusties in St. Peter. Gustavus Adolphus improves to 14-6 overall and 12-5 in the MIAC, while Macalester falls to 8-12 overall, 6-11 in conference play.
The game was evenly matched early and was tied 20-20 with 4:42 left in the opening half before Gustavus closed out the period on an 11-3 run to take the lead for good. The first half was a see-saw affair with four ties and five lead changes. Macalester kept within striking distance in the second half and after six unanswered points was down by just four points at 50-46 with 3:21 to go.
After that Mac rally, however, the Gusties responded with eight straight points to ice the game.
Ann Baltzer (Jr., Bismarck, N.D.), the MIAC's leader in field goal percentage, was 6-for-11 from the floor and paced the Scots with 13 points.
Majra Mucic (So., Zenica, Bosnia / St. Louis Park (Minn.)) came up with eight rebounds, five steals and a couple blocked shots in just 14 minutes off the bench.
Trina PaStarr (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn. / Southwest) provided the team with eight points and eight rebounds.
Five Gusties reached double digits in scoring, led by Molly Geske with 16 points. Brianna Radtke and Katie Layman each picked up four assists.
The Scots, who have been out-scored by just four points in 17 conference games but are five games under .500 in the MIAC, look to turn their fortunes around Saturday (Feb. 7) when they host Augsburg at 1 p.m. for
Pink Zone Day and Senior Day.
