Macalester vs. Bethel statistics
Macalester's stingy defense allowed visiting Bethel just five points over the first 10 minutes of the second half as the Scots pulled away for a 60-47 win over the Royals and a 3-0 start to their MIAC campaign.
Ann Baltzer (Sr., Bismarck, N.D.) and
Trina PaStarr (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn. / Southwest) each posted double-doubles and combined for 35 points and 22 rebounds.
The Scots hustled for 21 offensive rebounds, compared to 20 defensive boards for BU, and held the Royals to a 33% shooting mark. Mac out-rebounded BU 50-28. Bethel was just 6-for-27 (22%) in the second half after trailing by just two points at halftime, 31-29.
Baltzer, who earlier in the day was named MIAC Player of the Week, finished with 20 points, 12 rebounds and three assists. PaStarr, who increases her career scoring total to 993, added 15 points, 10 boards, three blocked shots and a couple steals.
Eartha Bell (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn. / Breck School) provided four assists and
Danielle Johnson (Sr., DeForest, Wis. / Madison Edgewood) had three steals.
Bethel was led by Taylor Sheley with 13 points, while adding eight apiece were Shanna Grejtak and Kristen Wolters.
The Scots face one of the two other 3-0 MIAC teams when they host St. Benedict on Wednesday (Dec. 9) at 7:30 p.m. The Scots are then away from action until Jan. 2.
