Macalester forced overtime with a second half goal by
Taylor Rasmussen (Fy., Eagan, Minn. / Eastview), but host-Gustavus broke the deadlock three minutes into the second overtime session to defeat the Scots 2-1 in St. Peter. The Scots drop to 6-7-1 overall and 3-3 in the MIAC. The Gusties end a 0-4-1 slide over their previous five games, and move to 5-5-3 overall, 3-2-1 in the MIAC.
Gustavus took quick command with a goal in the ninth minute by Mark Adams off a corner kick and held a slight 1-0 lead until Rasmussen netted his third goal of the campaign at 63:44. That's where the score remained until GAC's Bret Vander Streek tallied the game-winner at 103:00. Macalester falls to a frustrating 0-3-1 in overtime games this season.
The Gusties out-shot Macalester 9-5 and 6-5 in shots on goal.
This was the sixth straight road match for the Scots, who return to their home field Saturday (Oct. 17) for the first time since Sept. 23 when they host St. Olaf at 7:30 p.m.
