Scots shoot 55% to beat Gustavus 88-71

Macalester vs. Gustavus statistics

Ann Baltzer (Jr., Bismarck, N.D.) finished with 26 points and eight rebounds as Macalester shot a season-best 55% and handed visiting Gustavus its first conference defeat of the season. Beltzer made 11 of 14 shots from the field. The Scots out-rebounded the Gusties 39-28 and snap a 10-game losing skid to Gustavus. Mac led 37-26 at the halftime break and shot 62% in the second half (16-for-26).

The Scots boost their record to 6-3 overall and 4-2 in the MIAC. Gustavus is now 7-2 on the campaign, 5-1 in MIAC play. The Scots post their highest scoring output since netting 88 during the 2000-01 season.  The 88 points is the second most compiled in an MIAC game this season.

Trina PaStarr (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn.) added 15 points and five assists for the Scots, while Majra Mucic (So., Zenica, Bosnia / St. Louis Park (Minn.)) came off the bench to contribute 14 points. PaStarr also had six rebounds, five assists and a couple steals, while Mucic added six boards and two steals.

In addition to getting five assists from PaStarr, Macalester received four assists from Eartha Bell (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn. / Breck School) and three from Danielle Johnson (Jr., DeForest, Wis. / Madision Edgewood).

The score was tied 6-6 in the early going before the Scots grabbed the lead for good on a Johnson three-pointer four minutes into the game. Mac extended the margin to 11 points at the break and the Gusties never got closer than seven points in the second half.

Mac enjoyed a 16-7 advantage in second chance points and 32-8 lead in bench points.

Emily Nelson scored 19 points to pace Gustavus. Molly Geske added 17 points and Brianna Radtke had 15 points to go along with six assists.

Macalester plays another one of the MIAC's top teams Wednesday (Jan. 7) when it plays host to Concordia at 5:45 p.m.
