Macalester vs. Hamline statistics
In a game which saw 55 fouls called and 76 free throws attempted, Hamline stormed back from a 15-point second half deficit to beat the visiting Scots 92-88 for its seventh win in a row Saturday afternoon at Hutton Arena. The Pipers made good on 30-of-33 free throw chances on the day.
With their seventh consecutive victory, Hamline improves to 12-4 on the season and has moved up to third place in the league with a 9-4 MIAC mark. The Scots have dropped four straight, including three heart-breaking defeats in the final minute, and are now 8-8 overall, 6-7 in the MIAC.
Macalester took a 24-23 lead with 7:18 to go in the first half and Hamline did not re-gain the advantage until going up 89-88 with just under a minute to play. Mac was on top 68-53 with 12:23 remaining before the Pipers made their game-winning run. Hamline's bench scored 49 points on the day.
Putting up 22 points apiece to pace Macalester were
Majra Mucic (So., Zenica, Bosnia / St. Louis Park (Minn.)) and
Ann Baltzer (Jr., Bismarck, N.D.). Mucic also grabbed nine rebounds and Baltzer was 10-for-11 from the charity stripe. Mucic drained three three-pointers and also contributed three assists and three steals.
Jessica Rene (Fy., Eau Claire, Wis. / Memorial) added 12 points and
Danielle Johnson (Jr., DeForest, Wis. / Edgewood) had 10 points and four assists.
Eartha Bell (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn. / Breck) provided the team with five steals and three assists.
Gabriella Gustafson scored 26 points off the bench to pace the Pipers, while Mary Wilkowski added 21 points and nine boards.
Looking to turn their fortunes around, Macalester gets back to action next Wednesday (Jan. 28) when it plays host to Bethel at 7:30 p.m.
