Macalester vs. Carleton statistics
Carleton opened up a 21-6 halftime lead with a pair of third quarter touchdowns and went on to beat Macalester 33-13 in Northfield as the Knights passed for 278 yards and four touchdowns. Mac's
T. Joe Loiselle (Fy., Chippewa Falls, Wis.) picked up his third straight 100-yard rushing effort, running the ball 27 times for 121 yards and two touchdowns.
The Knights improve to a perfect 3-0, while the Scots drop to 2-2 after two straight wins.
Macalester picked up 294 yards in offense, but suffered four turnovers (three by fumble) and was stopped on downs inside the CC one-yard line in the first half. Most of the Mac turnovers came at inopportune times.
Carleton led 14-0 midway through the first quarter by using the big play. The Knights opened the scoring on a 70-yard pass and on its next possession scored on a 48-yard run. The game was played much more closely after this point, however, as CC out-scored the Scots 19-13 the rest of the way.
Loiselle's first touchdown came early in the second quarter as the Scots capped an eight-play, 62-yard drive on a four-yard TD run. Macalester's other touchdown came with just over five minutes to play when Loiselle ran it in from four yards away to wrap up an 11-play drive which took 6:26 off the clock. Over the team's last three games, Loiselle has run the ball 87 times for 420 yards and four touchdowns.
Macalester ran 72 offensive plays, compared to 57 for Carleton, and had 35:52 in possession time.
Gavin Brown (Fy., Annandale, Minn.),
Gavin Keisling (Sr., Page, Ariz.) and
Josh Boomgaarden (Jr., Eden Prairie, Minn.) led the Macalester defensive effort with seven tackles apiece.
The Scots are home next Saturday (Oct. 4) for a 6 p.m. game with Northwestern-Roseville.
