Macalester vs. Carleton statistics
Macalester and Carleton battled to a scoreless tie after 110 minutes of play in the MIAC opener for both teams Wednesday night in St. Paul. Playing their fifth straight home match to start the season, the Scots go to 3-1-1 overall and 0-0-1 in the league. No. 21-ranked Carleton – last year's MIAC co-champ – is now 4-0-1 on the year and 0-0-1 in conference play, and extends its league unbeaten streak to 15 games.
The match was well played and closely played, and the Scots turned in one of their sharpest efforts of the season. Each side had a few good scoring opportunities, but no one converted, and both defenses were solid throughout.
Goalkeeper
Mark Mullaney (So., Plymouth, Minn. / Robbinsdale Armstrong) posted his second shutout in three Macalester starts in net and was credited with two saves. Seven different players had one shot each and four individuals had a single shot on goal as the Knight keeper made four saves on the night.
The Scots travel Saturday (Sept. 13) to Waverly, Iowa, to take on Wartburg in what should be another big test for Macalester. Wartburg has made the NCAA Division III playoffs in each of the last five seasons. The Scots return to MIAC play next Wednesday (Sept. 17) at home against Bethel at 7:45.
