Macalester vs. St. Thomas stats & play-by-play
Macalester made the short trip down Summit Ave. to challenge MIAC co-leader St. Thomas and played the Tommies close throughout the first half, but the Tommies shot 57% in the second half to pull away for a 68-53 win.
St. Thomas boosts its record to 14-5 on the year and 13-3 in the MIAC. The Scots, who knocked off UST in December, drop to 7-12 overall, 6-10 in the MIAC.
The game's first 20 minutes was closely played and
Eartha Bell's (So., Minneapolis, Minn. / Breck) last-second three-pointer brought the Scots with three points at 28-25 at the break. Leading by three points at 37-34 five minutes into the second half, St. Thomas staged a game-deciding 19-4 run to go up by 18 points at 56-38 with 8:36 to play.
Ann Baltzer (So., Bismarck, N.D.) scored 18 points on a 7-for-11 shooting night to lead the way for the Scots.
Trina PaStarr (So., Minneapolis, Minn. / Southwest) added 12 points and a couple blocked shots.
Danielle Johnson (So., DeForest, Wis. / Madison Edgewood) provided Mac with four assists and four steals.
Jessica Ramirez (Fy., Ocala, Fla. / Trinity Catholic) came off the bench to dish out five assists.
UST has two players with double-doubles. Carrie Embree made 10-of-12 shots and finished with 21 points and 13 rebounds. Jessica Katch finished with 16 points and 10 boards.
Macalester plays Wednesday (Feb. 6) at Augsburg.
