Scots off to best start since 1992-93

Macalester vs. Bethel statistics

Macalester closed out the game on a 20-6 run to defeat Bethel 63-55 in Arden Hills as the Scots improve to 5-1 on the season for their best six-game start since beginning the 1992-93 campaign at 7-0. At 3-0 in MIAC play, Macalester is in a three-way tie for first place with St. Benedict and Gustavus heading into a contest Wednesday (Dec. 10) at St. Ben's.

Bethel (2-1 overall / 1-1 MIAC) led 41-33 with 14:38 to play, but the Scots netted eight straight points to deadlock the tally at 41-41. Mac then went cold for a few minutes as Bethel re-gained the lead at 49-43 with just 6:58 to play. That's when the Scots began their game-closing 20-6 rally to close things out.

Mac out-scored the Royals 30-10 in points off turnovers and received double figures in scoring from four players. The Scots also received eight assists from Danielle Johnson (Jr., DeForest, Wis. / Madison Edgewood). Ann Baltzer (Jr., Bismarck, N.D.) led the way with 15 points followed by 14 points on a 5-for-7 shooting night from Jessica Rene (Fy., Eau Claire, Wis. / Memorial).

Joining Baltzer and Rene in double figures were Johnson with 11 points to go along with her eight assists, and Trina PaStarr (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn. / Southwest) with 10 points to go along with four steals.

Annegret Nautsch and Erica Hormig netted 13 points apiece to pace Bethel, while Nautsch ripped down 12 rebounds and blocked four shots.

After Wednesday's game at St. Benedict, the Scots are off until Jan. 3.
