Macalester vs. St. Thomas statistics
Macalester's bid for an MIAC post-season berth took a big hit when title contender St. Thomas broke a deadlock in the 70th minute to beat the visiting Scots 2-1. The Scots had won their last two league games to get into the hunt, but are now 4-3-1 in the MIAC and 8-6-1 overall. St. Thomas boosts its record to 5-1-1 in the league and 11-3-1. The Tommies are 4-0-1 against Macalester in their last five meetings after going 0-8-1 against Macalester from 1996-2003.
The day got off to a nice start for the Scots as
Jake Rocke (Jr., Lincoln, Neb. / East) put Mac on top quickly 1-0 at :34 on an
Eric Tettegah (So., Brooklyn Park, Minn. / Breck School) assist. Rocke one-timed the crossing pass from Tettegah from the right side.
St. Thomas, however, quickly dampened the Mac celebration just :72 into the game with first of two Mike Hutton goals. Hutton's game winner came with just 20 minutes to play in regulation. UST is now 9-0 at home this season.
UST out-shot the Scots 21-9, including a 12-2 margin in shots on goal.
Matt Weyer (Fy., Cedarburg, Wis.) played well, picking up 10 saves to keep his time in the game.
Macalester hosts Clarke (Ia.) in a non-conference match Friday (Oct. 17) at 7:30 p.m.
