Macalester vs. St. Mary's stats & play-by-play
Macalester picked up its second straight win as four players reached double figures in scoring to lead the Scots to a 60-51 win over Saint Mary's on a cold night in Winona.
Macalester brings its record to 7-10 overall and 6-8 in the MIAC. The Scots match last year's win total and surpass last year's conference win total. St. Mary's drops to 3-14 overall and 2-12 in MIAC play.
Four Scots reached double figures in scoring, led by Danielle Johnson (So., DeForest, Wis. / Madison Edgewood) with 15 points. Alyssa Lunde (So., Rochester, Minn. / Mayo) added 14 points, while Trina PaStarr (So., Minneapolis, Minn. / Southwest) and Ann Baltzer (So., Bismarck, N.D.) each scored 10 points. PaStarr pulled down nine boards to help Macalester out-rebound SMU 40-31.
The Scots enjoyed a 17-8 advantage on the offensive boards, a +4 turnover margin, and went 16-for-21 from the free throw line.
Macalester led 27-25 at halftime and most of the second half was close. With the score tied at 42-42 midway through the period, the Scots began a game-deciding 10-0 run to take a 52-42 lead with just 4:48 to go. During this 10-0 rally, Macalester received five points from Eartha Bell (So., Minneapolis, Minn. / Breck) and four from Jessica Ramirez (Fy., Ocala, Fla. / Trinity Catholic).
Jessica Weisbrod scored 13 points to pace SMU, while Jess Miller added 10.
The Scots face a big test Saturday (Feb. 2) when they host Concordia-Moorhead at the College of St. Catherine.
