Macalester vs. Hamline stats & play-by-play
Ann Baltzer (So., Bismarck, N.D.) scored a career-high 28 points, but it wasn't enou
gh as Hamline controlled the middle part of the second half and went on to defeat the visiting Scots 72-61.
Hamline's win brings the Pipers to 8-6 on the season, 5-6 in MIAC competition. Macalester goes to 5-9 overall and 4-7 in the MIAC.
Baltzer, who netted 27 earlier this season against St. Thomas for her previous career-best, went 8-for-11 from the field and 12-for-15 from the free throw line. She also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
Danielle Johnson (So., DeForest, Wis. / Madison Edgewood) also reached double figures for the Scots, finishing with 10 points. Eartha Bell (So., Minneapolis , Minn. / Breck) had three assists and three steals.
Hamline was led by Grace Weinreich with 21 points. Krystal Tschumperlin added 16 points and Jessica Heinen added 12.
The game was close throughout the first half and for the early part of the second half before the Pipers began their decisive rally. After the Scots were on top 35-33 with 14:22 to go in the game, Hamline staged a 23-5 run to open up a 16-point lead at 56-40 with 7:02 to play.
Hamline was 7-for-21 on three-pointers and 17-for-23 from the foul line.
The Scots host Gustavus Wednesday (Jan. 23) at St. Catherine at 5:45 p.m.
