Late comeback falls short against Carleton

The Knights used balanced scoring to keep its hold on third place in the MIAC standings. Carleton improves to 8-5 overall, 7-3 in the conference, while Macalester drops to 5-8 on the season and 4-6 in the MIAC.

Carleton held Mac to 29% shooting to grab a 34-18 halftime lead. The score was deadlocked at 8-8 after about nine minutes of play as both teams struggled on the offensive end of the court. The Knights then out-scored the Scots 20-4 to take a commanding 28-12 advantage with 4:42 remaining in the first half.

Carleton's second half lead was safe, although the Scots quickly cut a 16-point deficit with 4:29 to play down to five points at 60-55 with less than half-a-minute to play behind a late 13-3 run.

Macalester had slight advantages in turnovers and rebounding, and made 16-of-20 free throw tries. Trina PaStarr (So., Minneapolis, Minn. / Southwest) collected 14 points to lead the charge. Alyssa Lunde (So., Rochester, Minn. / Mayo) added 12 points and seven rebounds. Majra Mucic (Fy., St. Louis Park, Minn.) came off the bench for seven points and seven boards.

Sarah Lincoln led a balanced CC attack with 14 points, while Annie Isler added 10 points, four assists and three steals.

The Scots jump right back into MIAC action Monday (Jan. 21) with a 5:45 p.m. contest at Hamline.
