Scots improve to 18-0-1 vs. Oles under coach Leaney

Macalester gained its fifth win in a row, defeating St. Olaf 3-1 in Northfield behind two Grace King (Jr., Northampton, Mass.) goals and late game-clinching goal by Rose Betzler (So., Northfield, Minn.). Macalester is now 18-0-1 against St. Olaf under Coach John Leaney.

King has now scored at least one goal in all six games this year and now has nine on the season. She also assisted on Betzler's third goal of the campaign which put the game away. King has accounted for nine of the team's 13 goals and has assisted on three of the four others.

The Scots have won five in a row since a season-opening defeat to No. 6-ranked UW-Eau Claire and go to 5-1 overall. They are 3-0 in the MIAC. The Oles are 2-6 overall, 2-1 in the conference.

Macalester opened the scoring at 7:19 as King scored off a corner kick off an assist from Maggie Yates (So., Spokane, Wash. / Lewis & Clark). At 59:26, Mac made it 2-0 when Meghan Garrity (Sr., Walled Lake, Mich. / Marian) assisted on King's second tally.

After the Oles cut the margin in half in the 76th minute on a Jenny Wetzig marker, Betzler put the contest away with her third goal of the year.

Jenny Lee (Jr., Circle Pines, Minn. / Centennial) was standout in goal again for the Scots, registering six saves on the day.

Macalester plays Sunday (Sept. 23) at home against Luther (Ia.) at 5 pm. to begin a string of four straight home matches.
