Scots drop overtime decision to Wisconsin-River Falls

Wisconsin-River Falls forced overtime with a basket with :18 left and out-scored the visiting Scots 7-4 in the extra stanza to edge Macalester 60-57. The Falcons improve to 4-5 on the season and Mac goes to 3-4 heading into the holiday break.

The contest was close throughout. After the hosts jumped out on top 13-5, Macalester went on a 14-1 run to go up 19-14 with 7:08 to go in the first half, and led from that point on until UWRF scored 10 straight late in the second period to take a 49-46 lead with 3:27 to play. The Scots were 1-for-5 from the field in overtime as the Falcons escaped with the win.

Alyssa Lunde (So., Rochester, Minn. / Mayo) scored a season-high 21 points on an 8-for-15 shooting performance to pace Macalester.

Last week's MIAC Player of the Week Ann Baltzer (So., Bismarck, N.D.) produced her fourth double-double of the season, finishing with 12 points and 16 rebounds, and Trina PaStarr (So., Minneapolis, Minn. / Southwest) had nine points, 10 boards, three assists, two blocked shots and a couple steals.

River Falls had four players reach double figures in scoring, led by Caitlyn Huntstock with 13 points. The Falcons took advantage of a 31-23 turnover advantage.

The Scots return to action Jan. 5 with an MIAC contest at Concordia-Moorhead. Mac will enter that game with a 2-2 conference record.
