Scots go 1-3 at Minnesota-Iowa Border Battle II

Macalester won a five-game battle with Dubuque in the team's fourth and final match to wind up going 1-3 over the weekend at the Minnesota-Iowa Border Battle at Hamline University. On Friday, the Scots fell to Wartburg and Cornell and in Saturday's first match lost a 3-1 decision to Loras before responding with their triumph over Dubuque .

Kate Fahje (Sr., Waukesha, Wis. / South) was named to the all-tournament team, the second time she has done so this season. Fahje hammered down a team-leading 39 kills in 15 games while also leading the team with a .409 hitting percentage. She also served nine aces to lead the squad.

Fahje spiked 17 kills and hit at a .500 clip in Mac's win over Dubuque . In that match, the Scots came back from a 31-29 defeat in game one to win games two and three by identical 30-26 scores. Dubuque took the fourth game 30-28 before the Scots put an end to their 11-match losing streak with a 15-9 triumph in the decisive game.

Kari Tanaka (Sr., Bloomington, Minn. / Jefferson) had 37 assists against DU and Briana Keefe-Oates (Sr., Encinitas, Calif. / San Dieguito Academy) handed out 19. Marie Godwin (So., Chaska, Minn.) contributed 12 kills, 20 digs and five blocks.

For the four-match tournament, the Scots attacked with a solid .269 hitting percentage. The top hitter behind Fahje's 39 kills was Godwin and Maja Mucic (Fy., St. Louis Park, Minn.) with 33 apiece.

The Scots had a pair of the top defenders in the tournament, which Kiera Coulter (Fy., Davis, Calif.) providing 5.92 digs per game and Marisa Raether (Sr. , San Marino, Calif.) adding 5.67 a game.

The Scots return to MIAC competition Tuesday (Oct. 9) with a match at St. Benedict.
