Gusties end Macalester's post-season hopes

Going for their fourth straight MIAC championships, something no team has ever done, Gustavus Adolphus scored in the seventh minute and hung on for a 1-0 victory over the Scots in St. Peter. With the loss, combined with a St. Olaf win today over Hamline, Macalester has been eliminated from any chance of getting into the four-team post-season conference playoffs.

Gustavus holds on to its title hopes, improving to 13-3-1 overall and 8-1 in the MIAC. Macalester is 7-6-4 overall and 4-4-1 in MIAC play.

The Gusties out-shot Mac 11-5 and had a 4-2 advantage in shots on goal and 6-1 in corner kicks.

The game's only goal was provided by Bret Vander Streek at the 7:30 mark on a Fraser Horton assist. It was Vander Streek's five score of the year.

The Scots will go for a winning record and a winning conference slate when they close out their season this Saturday (Oct. 27) at home against Augsburg at 7:30 p.m. It will be the final collegiate match for Macalester seniors Evan Mitchell (Minneapolis, Minn. / South), Ryan Palmer (Helena, Mont. / Capital), Andrew Mykletun (Nesbru, Norway / Washington International), Adric Mueller (Madison, Wis. / West), Alex Whitworth (Forest City, N.C. / North Carolina School of Science & Mathematics) and Pat Wright (St. Paul, Minn. / St. Paul Academy).
