No. 10-ranked St. Thomas defeats Macalester

No. 10-ranked St. Thomas kept its hold on first place by defeating Macalester 3-0 at UST. The Scots threatened to win the first game, leading 27-25 before the Tommies rallied for a 30-28 victory by scoring five of the final six points. After that, the match belonged to the Toms, who claimed the second and third games by scores of 30-15 and 30-11.

St. Thomas remains unbeaten in the MIAC at 8-1 - a game ahead of Concordia and St. Benedict - and is now 21-4 overall. Macalester falls to 3-18 on the season, 0-8 in the MIAC.

The Scots spiked 15 kills and hit at a .204 hitting percentage in game one, compared to .170 for UST, but posted a negative hitting percentage in the final two games.

Kate Fahje (Sr., Waukesha, Wis. / South) hammered a match-high 10 kills and hit at a .333 percentage to lead the Macalester attack. Kari Tanaka (Sr., Bloomington, Minn. / Jefferson) had five blocks while serving 13 assists, while Kiera Coulter (Fy., Davis, Calif.) led the team with 13 digs. Marie Godwin (So., Chaska, Minn.) provided Mac with eight digs and five kills.

St. Thomas was led by setter Emily Foster with 31 assists. Katie Kremer and Aly McConnell each served five aces.

Macalester jumps right back into MIAC action as the Scots travel to Northfield tomorrow for a 3 p.m. match at St. Olaf.
