Why did you choose to attend Macalester?
I chose to attend Macalester because it had that "we're intelligent but cool and approachable happy" vibe to it when I visited. It also advertised (and then followed through) on awesome study abroad opportunities.
What has your experience at Macalester meant to you so far?
It's difficult to put words to what this place has meant to me thus far, but "home" is what comes to mind when I think of Macalester. It's a place I am comfortable making mistakes and learning from them and just really embracing the concept that normal isn't normal and it's more important to be yourself than to put up an unnecessary facade.
How has your experience as a student-athlete at Macalester helped shape you as an individual?
Coming in for soccer and track was so fluid and comfortable, but learning when to listen to your own instincts and/or body and call it a day, or push through the next sprint or rep in the weight room has encouraged a new level of self sufficiency and reliance I didn't have before. The biggest challenge for me was to learn to completely trust and rely on my teams - or more importantly - to have them rely on me was an extremely important to developing more confidence and happiness with myself both on and off the track/field. Being a student-athlete has done amazing things for my mental health and strength.
