Coach Peper

Martin Peper

Martin Peper returns as head track and field coach for his 18th year at Macalester College. He was an assistant coach at Macalester for three years before becoming the head coach and prior to that was an assistant for six years at his alma mater, Carleton College.

Between his tenure at these two schools, athletes Coach Peper has worked with have won three NCAA national championships and over 50 of his former athletes were provisional or automatic NCAA national qualifiers. In the classroom, the Macalester track and field athletes are among the best in the nation with ten teams having earned USTCA All-Academic honors, as well as ten individual earning USTCA All-Academic honors.

Martin began his coaching career at Eden Prairie High School in Minnesota and during his seven years at the high school level coached many state participants in the jumps.

After attending Carleton College, Martin continued his education at the University of Minnesota. His academic work is in Classical Civilization, specializing in ancient athletics, specifically the Greek Olympics. Martin just finished his training to become an archaeologist prior to becoming the head coach at Macalester College.

Coach Peper has completed USAT&F Level I program, is USAT&F Level II certified in the endurance events and the jumps, and has completed over 50 hours of USAT&F Level III. He also lectures at track and field clinics. Martin has been the meet director during the two NCAA Division III national outdoor championships Macalester has hosted. Martin lives in St. Paul with his wife and son.
