Jordan Cushing is in her 10th year as Macalester's head cross country coach and the women's distance track coach. Coach Cushing also serves the department as assistant athletic director - recruiting. Cushing started at Mac as a student-athlete receiving all-conference, all-region and Academic All-District honors in cross country and track.
After graduation she joined the Macalester coaching staff and was the assistant coach for four years. She helped coach two Macalester cross country teams to the NCAA Division III national championship meet.
Since taking over as head coach Cushing has had one individual conference champion in cross country and led the team back into the national rankings in 2004 for the first time since racing at the national championships in 1999. The team grew from 18 runners in 2000 to 38 runners on the '05 team. Cushing's 2006 team qualified for and placed 21st at the national championships after finishing fourth at the regional meet. She has coached a number of all-conference athletes in track and in '05 the conference record holding 4x800 relay team.
Coach Cushing lives in Minneapolis with her husband Curt Kietzer and their four girls: Alex (13), Julia (11), Solana (8) and Frances (3).
