Hayley Haakenstad joined the Macalester tennis programs as an assistant coach in the spring of 2023. She was a standout Division I tennis player at the University of Nebraska, compiling 51 victories in singles and 74 wins in doubles in her career as a Husker. A four-time team captain, Haakenstad earned Academic All-Big Ten and Big Ten Distinguished Scholar honors all four years and received the Big Ten Sportsmanship award in 2019.
Haakenstad majored in mathematics at Nebraska, with minors in statistics, sociology and ethnic studies. She also earned a Master’s degree from Nebraska in business analytics, and currently works at Midcontinent Communications as a Financial Analyst/Analytics.
A native of Chanhassen, Minn., Haakenstad won the Class AA singles state championship in 2015. She also helped Chanhassen High School win the 2016 Class AAAA state softball championship.
