Why did you choose to attend Macalester?
I chose Macalester mainly because it was one of the few schools I was looking at that offered my intended major (Neuroscience). I also liked the small student body and the opportunity I had to study a variety of subjects and participate in a variety of activities. Finally, the study-abroad program here to Germany drew my interest.

How has your experience as a student-athlete at Macalester helped shape you as an individual?
Being a student-athlete has greatly helped me venture beyond my comfort zone. As a swimmer in high school, my first year I learned an entirely new sport and learned to love it so much more than I ever thought I would. By joining Mac's dive team, I had to push myself to learn some important lessons: that failure is okay, that setting goals and breaking them is one of the best feelings, and that you can do anything you set your mind to as long as you work hard. But a big part of the student-athlete life that shaped me is my team. Without their support I would never have been able to push myself this far.

How has your experience as a student-athlete at Macalester prepared you for life after graduation?
I think being a student athlete has prepared me in terms of obvious things like time management and teamwork, but also in the way of challenging myself. I didn't know how to dive when I came to Mac - I picked it up during October of my first year. So being a student athlete has encouraged me to continue to try new things even after college.
