Golf Coach Nause

Martha Nause

Martha Nause is the head men's and women's golf coach at Macalester College . A St. Olaf College College graduate and a 22-year LPGA tour veteran, Nause took over the Mac men's program in the Fall of 2000 and added women's coaching duties a year later.

Both programs have made substantial progress under Coach Nause and enjoyed their highest levels of success in years during the Fall '06 campaign. The Mac men's team posted its highest conference finish in over 20 years at the MIAC championships and the women's team earned its best MIAC finish ever as two Scots played to top-five finishes.

Nause recently retired from a successful LPGA career which was highlighted by three tour wins, including the prestigious du Maurier Ltd. Classic, an LPGA major championship. In addition to her tournament win at the 1994 du Maurier Ltd. Classic, she also won the 1991 Chicago Sun-Times Shoot-Out and the 1988 Planters Pat Bradley International. Nause also played on winning teams for the USA against Japan in the Nichirei Cup in 1988, '91 and '94.

Coach Nause has continued to play some outstanding golf on the LPGA Legends Tour and in 2006 was the tour's leading money earner and the winner of the LPGA Legends Tour Hy-Vee Classic near Des Moines , Iowa , where she held off Alicia Dibos, Jan Stephenson and Hall of Famer Joanne Carner.

Nause came back to the LPGA circuit, qualifying for and playing in, the 2008 and 2010 U.S. Women's Open.

Coach Nause has conducted numerous clinics on all phases of the game of golf and has attended teaching seminars by Manuel de la Torre, PGA Teacher of the Year. A member of the LPGA Player Council, Nause served as a non-voting member of the LPGA Executive Committee. In 1995 she was the winner of the Heather Farr Player Award, which "recognizes an LPGA tour player who, through her hard work, dedication and love of the game, has demonstrated determination, perseverance and spirit in fulfilling her goals as a player."

The first woman inducted into the St. Olaf College Athletic Hall of Fame, Nause is also in the Wisconsin Golf Hall of Fame.
