Why did you choose to attend Macalester?
Many reasons! Macalester fosters a living and learning environment that I wanted to be a part of. Mac seems to be a well-rounded place. I wanted to be in a community that seeks global awareness. I also like that I'd have the opportunity to run for the cross country and track teams. What really caught my attention though, are the very friendly people around campus.
How has your experience as a student-athlete at Macalester helped shape you as an individual?
Macalester Athletics has brought deeper meaning to my identity as a student-athlete. Student-athlete at Macalester does not mean exclusively student in the classroom and athlete on the track. My professors frequently ask about my races, and sometimes come out to support the team. My coaches, trainers and teammates are equally active in my academics. As teammates, we show up for each other. I can always count on a crowd of my teammates, and sometimes my coaches, to be in attendance at poster presentations. Being a student-athlete at Macalester has made me realize that the notion of team and the responsibility of teammates extends far beyond the track.
