Laura Heise joins the Scots as an assistant softball coach, bringing a wealth of Division III experience with her, both as a standout player and as a coach. Heise, a Minnesota native, attended the College of St. Scholastica and earned a BA and MA in Exercise Physiology. Her performance in the circle and at the plate for the Saints led to her selection as the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year from 2003-2006. She was a two-time NAIA All-American and a National Fastpitch Coaches Association NCAA Division III First-Team All-American.
Following her stellar softball performance at St. Scholastica, Heise returned as an assistant coach for one season. She then held the position of head coach at Dakota County Technical College, a NJCAA Division III program that was just starting, for one year. She also brings knowledge of the MIAC from three years of experience as a pitching coach at Augsburg College.
Head Coach Jody Gabriel said, “I am thrilled to have Laura join our coaching staff here at Macalester College. She has had an amazing career as a Division III softball player/pitcher and also has quality coaching experience. Laura’s knowledge of the game is incredible and her passion for coaching is apparent. We are very excited to have Laura join Mac Softball.”
Heise currently lives in Robbinsdale, Minnesota, and works for Sports Authority as an Operations Team Leader. She still holds the record for Division III career strikeouts with 1,125.
