Chase Johnson

Chase Johnson joined the Macalester coaching staff as interim head coach for the men’s and women’s tennis programs in January of 2025 and was named the permanent head coach in June that year.

A 2019 graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College, Johnson earned All-American and Academic All-American honors as a standout for the Gusties. He also received the 2019 ITA Central Region Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award. In his four seasons as a player, Johnson played on four MIAC championship teams that qualified for the NCAA tournament four times while compiling a singles record of 78-26 and an 86-23 mark in doubles in his career.

Johnson returned to his alma mater as a graduate assistant coach for the men’s team from 2019-22, earning ITA Central Region Assistant Coach of the Year accolades in 2022.

“I am thrilled to be joining the Macalester men's and women's tennis programs,” Johnson said. “I want to express my gratitude to Donnie, Devyn Smith, and the search committee for this incredible opportunity, and I am eager to continue my coaching career with the Scots.” 

Johnson graduated magna cum laude from Gustavus with a Bachelor’s degree in statistics. He also obtained a Master’s degree in sport management in 2021. Along with his duties at Macalester, Johnson is a senior live data administrator at Sportradar. He is a native of Hopkins, Minn.
