Why did you choose to attend Macalester?

In addition to being an academically rigorous institution, Macalester gave me the opportunity to continue playing both soccer and tennis at the collegiate level. When I combined these factors with its close proximity to the cities, and the family members I have still residing in Minnesota, the choice was an easy one.

What has your experience at Macalester meant to you so far?

Sports, music, and academics have all contributed to my great Macalester experience so far, but the sense of community I got in my first two years has meant the most to me. It's the little things that embody this tight-knit Mac community, the stuff I didn't hear about during info sessions or tours. Whether it's the Cafe Mac staff knowing my name and giving a big hello at every meal, or looking up into the stands and seeing my economics professor singing the Mac songs along with the rest of the student section, I feel like I'm at home when I'm on campus.

How has your experience as a student-athlete at Macalester helped shape you as an individual?

Being a student-athlete has helped me to manage my time better and stay focused on my studies as well as my athletics. Balancing time between homework, games, tests, and matches has allowed me to become a more organized person, and plan for scheduling conflicts that may sometimes arise. Through athletics, I've learned that the key to managing a busy schedule is communicating early and often with coaches and professors.

How has your experience as a student-athlete at Macalester prepared you for life after graduation?

At Macalester I learned that the key to the success of a team is how close they are off the field. It is a lot easier to get through tough workouts and wake up early for training knowing that you are doing so besides people you like and trust. This lesson will help me to transition to life away from the field and the court, as I join different kinds of teams in the professional world after graduation.
