Biography

Why I chose Macalester:
I chose this school partially because of where it was located. I wanted a school where I could visit my family often but yet still feel like I’m not too close to home. That way both my parents and I are happy. Besides that I liked that the school was a small liberal arts college where I could become friends with other classmates and not get lost. Also I was impressed with Coach Barker and the soccer team when I came on my visit here.

What Macalester has meant to me so far:
A couple of the main reasons I decided to study at Macalester is for its academic excellence that it offers, a great soccer team and the community. The academic year at Macalester is very rigorous and fast paced, although they provide many diverse resources that are tailored to help each student meet their academic potential. Unlike universities or other big collegiate schools there’s strong support from the staff. For example usually students can schedule meetings with their professors to talk about school or life in general. The other main reason I decided attend Macalester is for the great soccer that they have. This year we have 50 first team and second team players without counting other players that want to walk on and are not at preseason. The coaches are highly experienced and they treat all of their players equally and fairly. The last main reason and why I continue to attend Macalester is because of the community. Unlike any other schools Macalester has a extremely diverse reputation. At ‘Mac’ there are kids from over 90 different countries. This really attracted my attention because with so many different kids from all over the world you get so many wonderful and different perspectives. Also there is a high tolerance for individuals here that I think if the rest of the world were to follow we’d live in a happier world. For those three reasons I continue to come back for to Macalester.

How Macalester Soccer has shaped me as an individual:
Being a student-athlete at Macalester helped me discover my interests. I discovered that I wanted to be a biochemistry major and aspire to become a doctor of osteopathy. Also being a student-athlete honed my abilities balance sports, class and a social life. After two stellar years at Macalester I'm looking forward to another enriching year.
