Why I chose Macalester:
"I chose Macalester because of its small size, strong economics department, and focus on internationalism. The small size of the school allows you to get to know your professors and fellow classmates. There are not many other schools that have such small classes and professors that truly care about students in and out of the classroom. The strong economics program also enticed me. After studying business for two years I knew that I needed a more analytical approach to consumers and the ways in which people interact in the market place. Macalester has some of the best professors in the country who are great at teaching academia but also contribute much to the fields they are in. Finally, the internationalism is outstanding. It is hard to look ahead, to the side, or behind you without seeing someone who is from a different country or a completely different culture. Heck, I can’t even play soccer without seeing a beautiful Englishman, with a bald head and glistening brow, yell at me ”Come on you muppet.” Nobody knows what a muppet is in that context but it is just one of the examples of how at Macalester you are given the unique opportunity to experience and interact with a variety of cultures. Macalester is truly the right fit for me and a place where I can grow in the classroom, on the soccer field, and build strong relationships with people from all over the world. "
