Why I chose Macalester:
Macalester’s small class sizes, top notch facilities (both for academics and athletics), large numbers of international students, and urban location were all things that drew me to Macalester. After visiting once over the summer and once after being admitted, I came to the conclusion that it was the best fit for me.
What Macalester has meant to me:
As I join the soccer team this year, I’m glad to be enjoying past or present participation with a number of different sports teams at Macalester: I’ve had opportunities in Nordic Skiing, Ultimate Frisbee, kicking for the (American) Football team, and Soccer, my personal favorite. Looking forward, I'm glad to be a part of a very talented soccer team that I feel has a chance to accomplish a lot this year.
Academically, I’ve had the chance to pursue a variety of interests while choosing a major. I’ve specifically enjoyed classes in computer science, economics, math, and logic; all of which will help me make my decision.
Macalester through Junior Year:
As I start the fall this year I am hoping for another, even more successful fall soccer season. I also look forward to taking a variety of computer science and math courses this year, and I hope to have the majority of those majors completed by the end of this spring. After the soccer season draws to a close I will be continuing my participation with the Nordic skiing team, which has been a great experience for me here at Macalester.
How Macalester Soccer has prepared me for life after graduation:
My experience as a student-athlete at Macalester has prepared me for graduation in a several different ways. I've learned to manage my time to meet the demands of my academics and athletics. Additionally, I've had some wonderful opportunities to do research with the computer science department here, which has prepared me to pursue jobs in the software industry as well as graduate school opportunities.
