Why I chose Macalester:
Of all the colleges, Mac always seemed to take the greatest deal of care and personalization. There was an immediate sense of relation and understanding which was comforting throughout a much stressed senior year of high school. By choosing Mac, I was given the chance to attend a well-respected institution in addition to extending my soccer career. Macalester’s emphasis on internationalism and community seemed to go hand-in-hand with what is was looking for. In the end, Mac’s outreaching hand and innovative visions outweighed the misery of cold weather that I’m about to experience.
What Macalester has meant to me so far:
Coming in as a sophomore this year at Macalester, I am looking forward to build upon my experiences from last year, as well as create new memorable moments. In my first year, I matured as both a student and an athlete. Academically, I really discovered myself in terms of work ethic and study habits. I used all of the valuable resources Mac has to offer whether it was late nights in Kagin Commons, the approachability of the professors, or help from fellow students. As I really start to concentrate on a major this year, I hope these values and resources will help jumpstart research and internship opportunities.
Athletically, I felt I was part of something historic last year with our run into the NCAA’s. Gaining first team experience was helpful as I look for more varsity time this year. The success of our second team pushed and helped define the achievements of the first team. With most of our core still intact, I am excited about the competition in my sophomore year.
How Macalester Soccer has shaped me as an individual:
I've been a student-athlete my whole life soI tend to do better academically during the season so there must be some sort of correlation there.
