Matesi’s college career began in the NJCAA at Anoka-Ramsey Community college in 2011. As a freshman, he was named captain and helped lead the team to their only National Tournament appearance. During his two years at Anoka-Ramsey, Matesi kept 14 clean sheets and had a goals against average of 0.87. In addition, his team won two Conference titles, two Regional championships and one District championship, while advancing to the Final Four of the NJCAA National Championships.

After leaving Anoka-Ramsey, Matesi landed in the MIAC at Hamline University in 2013. Entering the program as a junior, Matesi quickly earned the starting goalkeeper role. He remained as the starter for the majority of the season until an injury setback. In his time at Hamline he posted a .870 save percentage and a 1.21 GAA. Their 2013 placement in conference was their highest finish in seven years.
