Dr. Andy Overman will serve as the Faculty Liaison Coach for the Macalester football program.
Dr. Overman is the Harry M. Drake Distinguished Professor in the Humanities and Fine Arts. He specializes in Classical Mediterranean and the Middle East, teaching classes such as The Roman World and Cosmopoleis: Building Global Diverse Cities. Professor Overman is also an archaeologist who is currently the director of the Omrit dig in Israel. Each summer students accompany him to this site in the Middle East to conduct excavations of a Roman temple.
Dr. Overman pursued a multitude of educational opportunities in his early life, obtaining his BA at Saint John's University while competing on the gridiron for the Johnnies. He then received his BD at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, and PhD at Boston University.
"Professor Overman has already proven his worth since recently joining our staff," head football coach Tony Jennison said. "He will advise our students on how to effectively navigate their time academically at Macalester while also helping them communicate with faculty. He is an excellent resource further connecting our student-athletes to their professors."
