Matthew Reed enters his seventh season on the sidelines with the Macalester Scots in 2025, continuing to serve as the Offensive Coordinator, Quarterbacks Coach, and Recruiting Coordinator. During his tenure, Reed has been instrumental in transforming the Scots' offense and elevating their aerial attack to new heights. Under his guidance, Macalester’s offense has seen 20 individual school and team records fall, with several players earning spots in the MIAC record books.
Reed’s leadership has cultivated one of the most dynamic passing attacks in program history. Quarterback Michael Nadeau (2019-2023) flourished under Reed’s mentorship, shattering multiple records:

In 2022, Nadeau’s record-breaking campaign earned him All-MIAC honors and national recognition as he finished third in the nation in passing yards. He continued his dominance in 2023, culminating in an eight-touchdown performance against Martin Luther.
Reed’s influence extended to the receiving corps, where standout players Rex Desso (2018-2022) and Ty Bruckner (2018-2022) rewrote the record books:

Reed joined the Scots in June 2019 as the Quarterbacks Coach and Recruiting and Social Media Coordinator. In 2020, he expanded his responsibilities to include Special Teams Coordinator. Before arriving at Macalester, Reed served as Offensive Coordinator at Maine Maritime Academy in Castine, Maine. He oversaw recruiting efforts that brought in 51 incoming recruits in 2019, provided academic advising support and managed team travel arrangements, and helped develop an All-NEWMAC selection at wide receiver, Dominic Casale.
Reed began his coaching career at Maine Maritime in 2012, spending two seasons as Wide Receivers Coach. During his second year, the team led Division III in rushing, averaging 372.6 yards per game. He then coached at Knox College (2014-2016), mentoring a two-time All-Midwest Conference receiver, Ilir Emini, who set school records for receptions in a season and career. Reed also recruited 22 of 60 players on Knox’s 2017 roster.
A native of Amherst, N.H., Reed earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Studies from Southern New Hampshire University in 2012 and a Master’s degree in Sports Coaching and Psychology from the United States Sports Academy. A former player at St. Anselm College and Castleton University, Reed has also been an online adjunct professor in Psychology, Sociology, and Wellness at Southern New Hampshire University since 2016.
