Derrick Minor enters his third season as outside linebackers coach for the Scots. With 16 years of coaching experience behind him, this is Minor’s second stint coaching at the collegiate level. Previously, he served as the head football coach at Humboldt High School in St. Paul. Prior to becoming the head coach of the Hawks, Minor served as an assistant coach at Hamline University from 2003-2005.
“Coaching the outside linebackers is a very important position within our coaching staff and it is always a priority to me to have an experienced coach to work with this group,” says head football coach Tony Jennison. “Derrick has done a great job in his two years with working with our outside linebackers. What I love most about Derrick is that he is very passionate about helping our student-athletes develop into better people, students and athletes. Our outside linebackers have really enjoyed his coaching and I am confident our outsider linebackers will continue to grow and make more plays under his leadership.”
Coach Minor also served as offensive coordinator at Simley High School in Inver Grove Heights, Minn. Minor’s offense finished second in the Classic Suburban Conference in rushing, third in total offense, and first in yards per rush - averaging 6.2 yards an attempt. Coach Minor enjoyed another successful coaching stint at St. Paul’s Arlington High School, where he coached the defensive line and running backs. While at Arlington, Minor coached several all-conference performers and the defensive player of the year in the St. Paul City Conference.
A graduate of Minneapolis South High School in 1988, Minor went on to earn his Bachelors of Arts Degree in Sociology from Westmar University (Ia.) in 1993. He earned his Master of Arts in Adult Education in 2004 from the University of Phoenix.
Coach Minor and his wife Aneisha have two children, Briaunna (15) and Roman (9), and reside in St. Paul.
