Dan Mettlach was promoted to the Macalester full-time football coaching staff as Special Teams Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach in January 2013.

Mettlach was added to the Macalester staff prior to the 2012 season and served as quarterbacks coach for the 6-4 Scots, helping guide the squad to a school-record 215 passing yards per game.  The team also established another school mark by scoring 34 points per game.

"I am looking forward to joining the Mac family on a full time basis and expanding my role within the football program,” said Mettlach.  “Macalester College is a great place with great people and I am excited about the future of Mac football."

“Dan will be a tremendous addition to our full-time coaching staff,” said Macalester head coach Tony Jennison.  “It was clear that we had excellent candidates for this position already working on our staff in a part-time role.  Dan proved to be an excellent football mind, a very hard worker with a lot of football experience, and someone who cares greatly about the young men in our program.”

Mettlach brings a wealth of experience after spending the 2011 season at Hillsdale College (Mich.) as the quarterbacks coach. Before joining the staff at Hillsdale, he coached the wide receivers and quarterbacks at Northern Michigan University from 2007-2010.

The 2004 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Player of the Year at Michigan Tech University, Mettlach was a three-year starter at quarterback for the Huskies, and was a team captain for two years. He was named the team's most valuable player twice and led MTU to the 2004 GLIAC regular season championship.

Mettlach graduated from Michigan Tech in 2005 with a degree in business administration and completed his master's in sports management in 2012 from Eastern Michigan University. He now lives in Cottage Grove, Minn., with his wife Sarah and daughter Claire.
