Andy Johnson joined the Macalester baseball staff in the spring of 2024 as an assistant pitching coach with his duties focused on pitching development and technology. Johnson is a 2014 graduate of Bradley University, where he majored in communications. During his collegiate career he pitched in 38 games and posted a career best 0.90 ERA in 2011. Johnson pitched for the Alexandria Blue Anchors of the Northwoods League during their inaugural season and he led the team in strikeouts (45) over 37 innings. After graduation, he signed and played Independent baseball for the St. Paul Saints from 2014 to 2015.
Johnson spent time in the Northwoods League coaching for the Alexandria Blue Anchors. Before joining the Macalester coaching staff, he served as a pitching instructor for the Minnesota Blizzard and Plymouth-Wayzata Youth Baseball Association. Johnson graduated in 2009 from Wayzata High School, where he was a three-year letter winner and captain of a conference-championship team. Currently, Johnson and his wife, Libby, live in Maple Grove with their dog Pickles "The Big Dill" Cavapoo.
