Biography

Why I chose Macalester:“I decided to attend Mac after speaking to several students, teachers, and coaches on my two campus visits in the spring of 2008. The intense and inspired academics at Macalester lured me to visit, but the beautiful school and the perfect location in St. Paul (not too close, but not too far from home in Madison) convinced me to attend. Sitting in on an Animal Diversity class, with seven students, the professor and I in a mini circle of desk, I thought to myself, "I can't wait to start school here in the fall!"

What Macalester has meant to me:
Macalester has been a great combination of quality educational opportunity, athletic competition, and social bonding. As far as education is concerned, I am Biology and Geology double major. The professors that I have had a chance to study with have been extremely helpful and full of valuable information. In terms of athletic competition, I play both soccer and tennis for the school teams. Both teams have provided a great chance for intense practices and strong competition, especially within the MIAC. A majority of my close friend circle has come from various people on these teams. I will say that a great thing about Mac is that the people at the school have very similar interests and ideas, which makes it easy to connect and many levels.

Macalester through Junior Year:
Every year it seems, I am more excited to come back to Macalester. Winning the conference tournament and attending the NCAA tournament last year have inspired me for greater success this year. After two years it is amazing how many great relationships are formed with coaches, professors, and peers. Now that I am taking mostly upper level classes in Geology and Biology, my average class size is under 10, which makes going to class much more engaging. Besides athletics and academics, I hope to jam out with some of my friends this year in our house and maybe do some recording. I think that the overall liberal arts experience that Macalester has to offer has adjusted my world view significantly from when I was graduating high school.

How Macalester Soccer has prepared me for life after graduation:
I have learned how to balance a variety of time consuming activities. My organization and leadership skills have consequently become much stronger.
