Why did you choose to attend Macalester?
I visited 31 colleges and universities and I had a gut feeling about Macalester that I did not have about any other school.

What has your experience at Macalester meant to you so far?
My experience at Macalester has been an experience to grow as an individual while continuing my athletic career at the collegiate level.

How has your experience as a student-athlete at Macalester helped shape you as an individual?
Football has taught me lessons that I would not have learned if I did not play at the collegiate level. In my three years as a Macalester Football player I have learned the necessity of doing things that are difficult, the importance of doing smaller tasks that help me complete larger ones, how to improve from mistakes, and that greatness is a choice that I am able to make. In addition, I have acquired knowledge on how to take care of my body as well as time management skills that my parents and high school coaches and teachers did not teach me and never would have.

How has your experience as a student-athlete at Macalester prepared you for life after graduation?
During my four years as a student-athlete at Macalester, I've worked and held leadership positions in journalism, public relations, new media, geography, and administration. I have completed an ArcGIS project for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, a journalism project for the Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder and two new media projects for the Macalester football team. In addition, I assisted Mayor Christopher B. Coleman's staff with publicizing the Twin Cities' newest light rail. I have also had my own radio show, served in leadership positions for the Macalester football team and Afrika!. I have had journalism, fiction, and poetry published in various publications, and I've had a film featured at a film festival. I did all this while competing and training as a football player at an elite liberal arts college where I balanced my academic, professional, and leadership commitments with collegiate athletics. My athletic commitments were 40 hours a week in season. The jobs I've worked in the "real world" seem easy when I compare them to my experience of being a student-athlete at Macalester. Because I was challenged here, I feel prepared for life after graduation.
