Macalester College Athletics

Why I chose Macalester:
The reason I chose Macalester College is because I wanted to challenge myself academically and continue to play football as well. When I heard about Macalester's prestigious academic reputation and its new perspective on the athletic programs, I thought I would be selling myself short if I didn't take the opportunity to challenge myself in both areas.

What Macalester has meant to me:
Entering my senior year at Macalester, I am very thankful that I decided to attend this institution. There are many instances every semester where I feel the work load taking its toll on me; however, if I was just able to relax and had no worries, I wouldn't be able to say I challenged myself. Macalester has taught me many things in the three years I have been here; mainly that if you set your mind to something you want to accomplish, you are the only one who is able to affect the outcome. With both football and classes, there are many times when I could just decide to give up. But that is not the kind of person I am. Rather than make excuses, I just work harder so the feeling of accomplishment at the end feels twice as good.

Plans beyond Macalester:
After graduating from Macalester, I plan on returning to El Paso, Texas, and becoming a high school math teacher and football coach. I figure that choosing this area of work will allow me to help students from the same place I grew up as well as continue to be involved in a sport that I have been playing since I was eight years old. Being a student athlete has been an amazing experience, and I would love to spend the rest of my life influencing those same kinds of kids.
