Coming off an all-conference sophomore season, John Simkins had a solid junior season and was elected captain for his senior year. He hit a solid .291 with his first collegiate home run vs. Gustavus on 3-24-07 . . . Simkins was third on the pitching staff in appearences (10) and innings pitched (44) . . . His stellar sophomore campaign capped off with all-conference honors, a season in which he hit a solid .333 and posted a staff leading 3.72 ERA . . . Top pitching performance of the '06 season was a complete game shutout vs. Carleton on 4-22-06 . . . Collected his first collegiate win vs. St. Mary's on 4-19-05. The Galesburg , Illinois , native was named team MVP, all-conference, and earned the prestigious Most Valuable Senior athlete award during his senior year at Galesburg High School . . . During his prep career, Simkins's was also a member of the soccer team that set a school record for wins (15) in the fall of '03 and earned all-conference honors as a stopper.
