Biography

Why I chose Macalester:
"Macalester's emphasis on internationalism was the primary reason I chose to attend the college.  Their study abroad programs, the student-faculty ratio, the location of the campus, the willingness of the students to immerse themselves in today's political climate, and the soccer team were the main factors that separated Macalester from the other colleges that I considered.  Finally, the energetic atmosphere on campus made me feel very comfortable when I visited the school back in April."

What Macalester has meant to me so far ('08):
"My first year at Macalester was everything I imagined and much more. Stimulating classroom environments significantly increased my knowledge while Macalester soccer made me a better player.  Being in the Twin Cities allowed me to explore and enjoy the numerous sights and sounds in the area while Macalester's social scene introduced me to many of my friends.  I honestly believe that our squad has the ability to win the MIAC and progress to the NCAA Championships.  With dedication and a little luck this dream could become reality.”

What Macalester has meant to me so far ('09):
"Cleaning air handlers for a summer has me running back to Macalester at a dead sprint. I will gladly trade in my grease soaked jeans for another year of all-night marathon essays, raucous weekend activities, and the elation of playing in front of the Macalester faithful. Freed from Dupre and catapulted across campus to La Casa Hispana has this Alaskana giddy with glee. More than anything, I look forward to rejoining my friends at school for another year of genuine fun. Of all the things that I have learned over the past two years, college has taught me to appreciate my youth and take advantage of every opportunity that comes my way."

Macalester through Senior Year:
"My first three years at Macalester have been absolutely fantastic. I have made tremendous progress as a student, athlete, and citizen of the world since I arrived on campus my freshmen year. Along the way there have been ups and downs but my overall experience as a student-athlete has been incredible. Being a student at Macalester has been an incredibly rewarding experience. The breadth and depth of academic opportunities offered at Macalester has provided me with a truly comprehensive liberal arts education. Being an athlete at the collegiate level has allowed me to continue playing the game I love while introducing me to some of my best friends at school. Last but not least Macalester has engaged me with the rest of the world. The emphasis on internationalism and multiculturalism at Macalester has exposed me to a variety of people, cultures, and perspectives on life. In the end I have changed a great deal as a person since I first arrived in the Twin Cities three summers ago. And I consider that a very good thing."
