Biography

Honors:
MIAC Academic All-Conference - Fall 2009, Fall 2010

Why I chose Macalester:
When it came down to making my decision, I realized that Macalester had the most to offer as a whole.  At Macalester I wasn't going to be stuck in the middle of nowhere; I would be somewhere that could enhance my college experience.  Academically I knew I would be challenged, and I knew I would have the opportunity to play soccer.  It seemed tough to turn down a place that has so many things to offer and so many friendly people.

What Macalester has meant to me:
After my first year at Macalester I cannot wait for the 2009-2010 school year to begin. Playing with the team last year was a great experience. In addition to the quality of play being very high—helping me to grow substantially as a player—the guys on the team make traveling and competing fun. Also, the new training facility is impressive and will help the team improve to the next level. Academically Macalester has been challenging and I have found my classes to be tough yet engaging and rewarding. In the fall I look forward to new classes and renewing the winning tradition of men’s soccer at Macalester.

Perspective on Macalester as a Junior:
My experience thus far at Macalester has been everything I could have hoped for. The quality of education and my time with the team have been exceptional. What is most unique about Macalester is the opportunity to participate in an elite division three soccer program while at the same time having access to a rigorous academic environment. Most students entering college will have to choose between institutions that offer either quality academics or quality athletics; however, I consider myself fortunate in that with Macalester I was never forced to make such a choice. I truly have had the best of both worlds. As I enter my third year I look especially forward to narrowing the scope of my studies and preparing for a deep playoff push with the team.

How Macalester has prepared me for life after graduation:
Although being a collegiate athlete is a big time committment, the experience has certainly prepared me to better manage my time as a graduate student and as a professional. Moreover, playing and living with the diverse group of individuals on the team has improved my ability to work effectively with large groups and to sacrifice individual merit for the good of the group.
