ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College softball team completed the final two innings of a suspended game at Hamline University, pounding out 11 hits and scoring eight runs in a 12-4 victory Tuesday afternoon at Meredith Field. The Scots, who beat the Pipers in the first game, 7-4 back on April 11, are now 21-15 overall and 12-6 in league play. Hamline drops to 5-27, 2-14 MIAC.

Ainsley Sullivan (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Latin School) drove in junior outfielder
Callia Holland (Akron, Ohio/Hawken) with a sacrifice fly in the top of the second. Junior
Tess Bojorquez (San Clemente, Calif./San Clemente) broke the tie with a two-run double in the third, later scoring on a base-running play with Holland for a 4-2 advantage. Hamline tied the game with two runs in the top of the fifth and had runners and second and third with two out in the fifth when the game was halted due to rain.
Flash forward to today, with Sullivan pitching and the Pipers still threatening. But Sullivan ended the threat and the fifth by inducing a grounder to second. In the top of the sixth, the Scots broke the tie when junior
Martha Miller (Medford, Wis./Medford) singled home sophomore
Safiya Butler (St. Louis, Mo./Whitfield School) from second for a 5-4 lead.
Macalester broke the game open in the top of the seventh, scoring seven runs on eight hits for a commanding 12-4 advantage. Butler singled home sophomore
Maya Thomas (Canton, N.Y./Hugh C. Williams), Sullivan hit a two-run double to plate Butler and Holland, Miller drove in Sullivan with a single and later scored along with junior infielder
Elizabeth Welch (Carol Stream, Ill./Glenbard North) on a single by sophomore
Dylan Tapia (Tarzana, Calif./Notre Dame), and Bojorquez plated Tapia with her second single of the inning. Holland also singled and doubled in the inning.
Sullivan pitched all seven innings, allowing four runs, two earned, on six hits for the win. Holland and Bojorquez both went 4-for-5, with Bojorquez driving in three runs. Sullivan also had three RBIs, while Welch went 3-for-3 with two runs.
Macalester returns to action Friday, May 1, when the Scots host Saint Mary's University for a MIAC doubleheader at the Macalester College Softball Complex. First pitch is set for 4:30 p.m.
