Water Polo: Three Scots Recognized by CWPA with Weekly Awards

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Macalester College seniors Jess Palmer-Sammons (Half Moon Bay, Calif./Half Moon Bay) and Jayden Kratt (Palo Alto, Calif./Henry M. Gunn) repeated as CWPA Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, as the conference announced its weekly awards today. Additionally, first year Alice Lemmon (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) was named the CWPA Rookie of the Week. The trip helped the Scots go 3-2 last week in California.

Palmer-Sammons registered 10 goals and 15 steals over the five games. In a 7-6 victory at the University of Redlands, she tallied four goals, including the game-winning goal on a penalty shot with two seconds left in the sudden death overtime period. Palmer-Sammons also scored three goals and had six steals in an 8-3 win at Caltech and added a pair of goals at Whittier in a 7-5 triumph.  

Kratt played in four of the five games last week, totaling 20 saves as the Scots went 2-2 in those games. She made six saves apiece against Caltech and Chapman, and had four saves versus both Whittier and Division I Cal State Fullerton.

Lemmon had six goals, four assists and five steals in the five games in California. Her two goals were key to Macalester's overtime win at Redlands, helping the Scots erase a 3-0 deficit. Lemmon also scored twice at Caltech and found the net once at CSU-Fullerton.

The Scots play the final four CWPA conference matches of the regular season this weekend at Washington & Jefferson Mar. 28-29 in Washington, Pa. Macalester begins the weekend on Saturday with matches against Penn State Behrend at 2:30 p.m. and Connecticut College at 6:20 p.m. Eastern time.
