Baseball: Scots Rout Elmhurst 21-1 Behind Chou-Green, 15-Hit Attack

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Junior Caleb Chou-Green (San Francisco, Calif./Peddie School) tossed five strong innings and the Macalester College baseball team erupted for 21 runs on 15 hits in an 21-1 run-rule victory over Elmhurst University on Friday at Lake Myrtle Sports Complex. The Scots improve to 9-6 on the season.

Chou-Green earned the win to move to 2-0 on the year, allowing just one run on six hits, striking out six over five innings. First year Winston Wisely (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi) did not allow a hit in two innings of relief, striking out two.

Macalester wasted no time, plating six runs before the Blue Jays ever saw a pitch. Senior Tristan Jones (Fairfield, Conn./Greens Farms Academy) capped the frame with a two-run double that cleared the bases and put the Scots ahead 6-0. The offense kept rolling with a nine-run fourth inning, putting them up 16-1 and securing the run rule margin. Senior Raymond McCaskey (Colorado Springs, Colo./Manitou Springs) tripled to left field to drive in three runs, and senior Nathan Gumagay (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) added a two-RBI single. McCaskey scored on a wild pitch to cap the outburst.

Jones finished 1-for-4 with three RBI and a double. Gumagay went 2-for-5 with three RBI. First year standout John McMurray (Washington, D.C./Sidwell Friends) had a team-leading three hits, going 3-for-4. First year J.C. Whitelock (St. Petersburg, Fla./Principia) contributed two hits and two RBI off the bench, and senior Ben Oberdorfer (Jacksonville, Fla./Paxon School) doubled and drove in a run in relief.

Macalester continues play at Lake Myrtle Sports Complex on Saturday, wrapping up spring break play against Bates College at noon central time.
