ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's basketball team battled Concordia College in a MIAC game before falling, 80-64 Wednesday night in the Leonard Center. The Scots are now 1-14 overall and 0-9 in the conference, while the Cobbers (14-2) remain atop the MIAC standings with an 8-1 mark in league play.
Concordia opened the game with a 13-4 run over the first four minutes before Macalester closed with a 9-4 run of its own to make the score 17-13 after one quarter. Sophomore forward
Cady Davis (Minneapolis, Minn./Roosevelt) scored six points on 3-of-3 shooting from the field over the first 10 minutes. After junior guard

But the Scots came right back, answering with a 13-0 run of their own that made the score 31-27 with 1:17 on the clock. Junior guard
Mary Daley (Cumberland, R.I./Bishop Feehan) scored six points and Smith added five points in the run. After Concordia tallied six of the next eight points, junior guard

The third quarter belonged to the Cobbers, as Concordia shot 75.0 percent (9-of-12) from the floor to lead by as many as 14 before a Davis jumper made the score 59-47 at the end of the third. An 8-2 run over the first 2:28 of the fourth put the Cobbers ahead 67-49, but the Scots made one last push. Seven points from Smith, including a three-pointer, sparked a 10-2 spree that brought Macalester to within 10, 69-59 with three minutes left. That's as close as the hosts would get, as Concordia closed out the game with an 11-5 run to win, 80-64.
